FIREPLACE DESIGN & INSTALLATION

You are are at the centre of our proven design process…
Based on our quotation and agreed description with reference images, once a deposit is paid we will develop a sketch of your fire basket, canopy or dog irons for you to review, revise and approve. Once we have agreement we will strike metal to create your unique piece of fireplace furniture.

Our design process has been refined over many years and never let us down (it has in fact saved us a few times instead.) We’re confident whatever you might ask us to create you will find close alignment between your design and the finished piece.

Visit our Open Fires Design and Customer Fires pages to see many examples.

Proven design process involving you.
To give you confidence – and give us clarity in our work – our design process is a key. Once an order is confirmed we always create a design sketch for you as the client to approve (and refine) before we strike metal. We can either use photos and dimensions provided to us by email or information from a show survey visit if we have been to the property.

We will create a sketch of your proposed fire in situ in your fireplace – broadly to scale. This takes away the uncertainty about your fire design – and gives you the chance to make changes that only involve an eraser and some re-drawing time. When your fire arrives you can be confident it’s an open fire you’ll be pleased to relax in front of from day one. It’s a process that has never let us down to this day. “Paul was able to design an unobtrusive canopy to work with our original chimney and fireplace in a 16th century cottage renovation. We now have a lovely working “open” fire in our dining room which has been great over the winter months. Thanks again.”

Show survey visits
Many customers choose to ask us to visit them in their proprty before they commit to an order. We will bring an example of a Thermovent open fire and one of our canopies and other items to show you in the flesh from within our show vehicle. We also have many other images to share with you. Our conversation with you to explore your preferences can be informed by what we see a feasible.

We will carry out a visual survey of your fireplace in respect of a suitable Thermovent or fire hood and firebasket arrangement and also be able to give you direction on any potential installation requirements. This process allows us to give more detailed proposals following the visit.

Installation
Fire baskets, dog irons, fire backs and accessories often need no installation. They are simply placed in position.

Thermovents and canopies (fire hoods) will need to be installed under building regulations to ensure they are safe, work and comply. This approach is also important to ensure your insurance can be relied up should the worst happen and there is some damage to your property as the result of the fire malfunctioning.

The most popular option is to use what are termed ‘Competent People’. This means an individual or organisation that has been on a recognised course and passed the required assessment at the start of their career and annually thereafter. These people are able to self certify their work to building regulations standards and will inform your local authority of the work having been carried out to the correct standards. A great place to find approved installers is via the HETAS website. This is the main organisation responsible for the maintenance of these standards. https://www.hetas.co.uk/find-installer/
The second option would be to use your builder or contractor if you have one. They may well already have building control involved in the project so adding this work to their approvals schedule may be an option. Many prefer to involve a competent person in any case.

Some installers are very stove orientated as this is the biggest market and may not initially show interest. However, once they are aware Thermovent is CE marked and we offer full support and installation instructions for all our Thermovent and canopies, they are willing to look at these projects. We are very happy to speak your potential installers on your behalf.

Camelot does not undertake installation work. We do however have a sister organisation Crown Fire Installations Ltd that offers a premium installation service and is HETAS approved. This is the basis of our in depth understanding of good design for installation and maintenance. Do please ask us about installation if this is of interest. Crown does have limited capacity and sometimes due to the distances involved carries costs other local installers do not have to include in their quotes which may be a factor.
